Being a guardian home is a wonderful opportunity for you to be a part of what we are doing here at BriarPatch Poodles!
As our program ages over the years, so do our dogs. Retired mommas have stayed with us and our house has filled with dogs we can't imagine living our lives without. This has placed us with a dilemma, though. In order to continue doing what we love (producing high-quality, exceptional family dogs for others), we have found the need to branch out and re-establish a Guardian Program. You’ve heard us say this many times- here, our dogs are valued and treasured family members first and foremost. Making exceptional puppies for others comes second to our dogs living the best lives they can and part of that is making sure they have a family that dotes on them. We feel this is one of the defining hallmarks of a breeder who strives for excellence in honoring their breeding dogs.
In order to continue producing high-quality puppies, while also giving our dogs the best lives, some of the dogs we have in our program live with other families~ guardians. Our Guardian Program allows us to continue our breeding passion for breeding, while still giving every dog in our program the absolute best life possible with a forever family. Our Guardian Program is so dear to our hearts and our guardian families are family to us.
What is the guardian program?
To quickly summarize, we place a high-quality older puppy or adult dog that we have purchased (or produced here) with a family at no charge. The puppy is raised and cared for as an indoor family member in the guardian’s home and returns to our home at certain times throughout their breeding career. Once their breeding career has come to an end (which is determined solely by us), ownership of the dog will be signed over to the guardian family and they can live out the rest of their lives in retirement with their forever family.
A guardian home is responsible for:
high-quality, chicken-free food
routine veterinary care
flea/tick/heartworm preventative
grooming every 4-6 weeks
basic commands, leash training, crate training
advanced training with a trainer
To be considered,
families/individuals must:
have a fenced yard (this is negotiable on an individual basis)
stable employment
all current dogs in home must be spayed/neutered
be willing to communicate and update frequently
support our program 100%
live within 1 hour of Lynchburg, Virginia OR be willing to drive within 1 hour of Lynchburg, VA for exchanges
understand that if at any time we're displeased with the dog's care, they will be removed IMMEDIATELY
accept that ownership of the dog is maintained by us until the dog is retired
have no intact dogs in their home
Perks:
Guardian families who complete advanced training and titling for the dog will receive a monetary thank you gift

We do consider lifestyle and family dynamics when placing puppies and will always act in our dogs’ best interest.
